What a fantastic start to term we have had in Crocodile Class. All the children are happy and seem settled already!  All that transition work seems to have paid off. Welcome to the new members of our class who have come from different settings. The Year 1s have made a fabulous start and have enjoyed being excellent role models for our new reception children.  Below are some photos from our first day.

Spring Term 2

Welcome back after our half term break!  A sudden fascination in Airplanes has led us to find out all about them. We have been comparing the first ever planes built, to current aircraft, looking at the similarities and differences. The children have designed their own model airplane and parents have very kindly helped with their children's design by discussing it with them, making adaptions and providing the materials to build them in school! Watch this space for photos of our building sessions...  Our poetry unit has allowed the children to improve their rhyming skills and our class has begun to learn a poem about families which we hope to perform to our parents in the near future. In maths we are just finishing our unit on addition and subtraction and are about to start investigating place value.

Spring Term 1

What a great start to the Spring Term we have had. Our topic this term is Bears. Already we have shared what we know about Bears and what we would like to find out. We discovered that some bears (Brown Bears) live in forests. So we decided to learn about forests. This made us think what we might hear, see, feel and smell in a forest. We wrote down our predictions and then went to discover for ourselves if we were right by spending an afternoon in Forest School. See photos below!

Science Day - 18th January 2019

Wow! What a great day we had, lots of fantastic learning.

We began by exploring a box of Science toys which Mrs Lovell shared with us - stretchy lizards, magnets, clockwork toys, squashy snails and a kaleidescope. Everyone enjoyed investigating this box of goodies!

Next we had an important challenge to solve - Some bears were frozen inside some ice cubes and the challenge was to release the bears without breaking the ice. The children had to think of the best way to free the bears using materials on the table or thinking of another way. There was lots of good discussion and they worked out the ice would have to melt, turn back to water and then the bears could escape!
