Our Topic this Half Term is:

Let's go on an Adventure...

Our Theme is… Let’s Go on an Adventure. Would we like to visit Guatemala?

We are continuing with our topic from last Half Term. However we will be focussing on volcanoes. We will research volcanoes, why we have them, what happens when they erupt plus the effects on the environment. We will then move on to science and DT learning by making our own volcanoes and then making them explode! Look out for them at the Great Exhibition on Thursday 15th March 2018.

Our Maths learning focus

This Half Term we will be learning about fractions. Our new vocabulary will be; numerator, denominator, unit fraction, non-unit fraction, whole, equal parts of a whole.

Please continue to practise all times tables up to 12x12 to support your child’s maths learning.

Our English learning focus

We will begin this Half Term by writing information leaflets about volcanoes, linked to our topic. Then we will move on to performance poetry, exploring performing techniques and the rhythm of poetry.

Our Core Learning skill this term

Our Core Learning Skill is Knowing Me, Knowing You. Pupils will be focussing on developing their personal and social skills. The lessons will involve self awareness, managing feelings and understanding and supporting  the feelings of others . We will explore the importance of being a good friend and listener and help to develop the children's  abilities to resolve conflicts and make wise choices. We have a Core Learning Skills Assembly every Tuesday and practise our Core Learning Skills all week throughout different lessons. In RE lessons we follow the Somerset Awareness, Mystery and Value syllabus and  our lessons will make links to our school values and CLS lessons.

At the end of this term we are going to celebrate our learning with..

Performance Poetry Week and The Great Exhibition.

Your involvement.

Please send into school any old newspapers—we will need lots for our volcano making.

Things to remember:

no Our weekly Spelling Test is on a Friday and the new weekly spelling lists will be sent home on Friday to learn for the following week. Please practise these as much as you can at home, they really help us to learn different spelling rules.

no PE is on a Thursday afternoon but can change so please make sure children have their PE kit every day.

no Swimming will start again in the Summer Term.

We will keep our page updated with what we have been learning and share photos of our exciting activities with you.
