Our English learning focus

We will be exploring our class novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, by Roald Dahl. We will be developing our character description and persuasive writing skills. By the end of this unit, we will have written our own character descriptions and persuasive adverts, having used our class novel as our inspiration. In addition, we will be working hard to develop our grammar and punctuation skills.

Our Theme is…

In Term 3 our Topic is ‘Should we eat Chocolate?’

During this Unit of Work, we will be looking at where chocolate comes from and the impact it has on our lives, including healthy eating.

We will also be developing our cross curriculum learning. In DT, we will making our own brand of chocolate, through persuasive advertising. In RE, we will be finding out about Christianity. In PE, we will focusing on working as part of a team. PE is on Wednesday and Thursday.

We will be doing Forest School  on a Tuesday afternoon.

Our Core Learning skill this term

Our Core Learning Skill is Becoming Better Learners. We will be focusing on the skills needed to improve our own learning and developing strategies to overcome barriers to learning that we face, remaining focused on a task, avoiding distractions and deciding which conditions help us to learn best. Children will understand that people learn in different ways and that there are different strategies to learning effectively. There is Core Learning Skills lesson each week and there are opportunities to  practise our Core Learning Skills all week across the curriculum.

At the end of this theme we are going to celebrate our learning with..

A DT week, with a Dragon’s Den finale.

Parent involvement..

We would love it if you could:

Make sure you hear your child read at least five times per week and that they learn their weekly spellings and times tables.
