Our Vision and Values
Tolerance | Respect | Understanding | Strength | Trust
Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do.
They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be confident, happy citizens. We want everyone to feel welcome and ensure they have their learning needs met. We believe in the power of learning and celebrate that everyday. We strive to be better and believe collaboration with parents, between teachers, with other schools and our learners means we are always the best that we can be.
A school vision and values are the central belief clearly understood and shared by every member of the school community.
We all believe that these are the elements which are essential to Learning Believing Achieving.
The ethos of our school is built on a foundation of 5 core Values which are addressed directly through lessons, assemblies and across the whole curriculum. We learn to understand what the Values looks like and how we can demonstrate the Value, in the way we behave, in our attitude towards each other and in our learning.
Woolavington Values and British Values
The DFE have reinforced the need ‘to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.’
At Woolavington Village Primary School, we reinforce these values regularly by linking them to our school values of TRUST:
Democracy is promoted through our election of pupil representatives including our Head Boy and Head Girl and the Chair of the School Pupil Council as well as School Pupil Council representatives from each class. We also encourage pupil voice through Class Forums and include School Pupil Council members in interviewing new members of staff.
The importance of Laws, in everyday life and in everyday school life is always promoted. Rules and laws are generally there to keep us safe and whether they govern the class, the school, or the country, there is a consistent message reinforced throughout regular school days and through school assemblies.
Individual Liberty is taught around independence, individual responsibility as well as e-safety and personal, social, health education lessons. Pupils are actively encouraged to think about the choices they make in their learning as well as the choices they make outside of school in life.
Mutual Respect is a core value. Our children understand that respect needs to be both earned and given and it is an important part of our school ethos and behaviour policy. Discussions in assemblies focus on what respect and our other values mean and how it is shown.
Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs is achieved through enhancing pupils understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity.
